Lincoln is currently ranked as the safest University City in the East Midlands and one of the safest cities in the UK. It is a relatively small city with a population of around 100,000 and a student population of 14,000.

There is a rich historical and cultural heritage and an impressive range of museums, art galleries and tourist activities including Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle, which are just a 15-minute walk uphill from the University of Lincoln campus.
The city is easy to traverse and is split into two halves, linked by Steep Hill. Although the street lives up to its name, it’s worth the walk to find boutique shops and impressive historical sites. Did you know that Steep Hill recently won of Britain’s Best Street Award due to its uniqueness and wonderful range of independent shops!
Uphill
Uphill you will find the Cathedral Quarter which boasts the historic side of the city, with its picturesque, cobbled streets, unique eateries, the magnificent Cathedral (third largest in the UK), the superb hilltop Castle and the Bishop Grosseteste University campus.
Downhill
Downhill is the more modern city centre where you’ll find the busy High Street. Here, the larger shopping brands sit alongside local retailers, so you won’t struggle to find what you’re looking for. Lincoln has a wide variety of cafes and restaurants, where you can spend some much-needed time to sit and relax after a busy day of shopping and exploring.
Cornhill Quarter
The Cornhill is a newly developed area of Lincoln, with boutique and independent shops, trendy bars and restaurants, premium brands, and Everyman cinema. It's a popular area to grab a cocktail and catch up with friends, and in winter, it's the heart of activity for festive celebrations!
Brayford Waterfront
Further south into the city is the Brayford Waterfront, on the banks of the river Witham. You can join tourists and locals to take a tour of the city on the Brayford Belle or just enjoy the view in one of the bars or restaurants overlooking the water.
