Waste Disposal
Black bins or purple sacks are for general domestic waste that cannot be recycled. All residents are asked to think carefully about whether the waste they are disposing of could be recycled before putting waste in the black or purple sacks. Please do not dispose of batteries or electrical items in the black bin.
Brown bins or a black box are for recycling materials only, and can take all of the following items: paper, card, glass, cans, plastic bottles, and beverage cartons. This is not an exhaustive list; check here if you are not sure. All residents are entitled to leave any additional recycling next to their brown bin on collection day. The collection crew must clearly be able to see that the waste is recycling, so please ensure it is left in clear or white bags.
Food waste collection will be weekly. An indoor 5 litre grey caddy and liners are provided by the council, as well as a 23 litre outdoor caddy (black with orange lid), for kerbside collections. Residents who use communal bins for collection of refuse and recycling will receive a 140 litre orange lidded outdoor bin, to use in conjunction with existing collection arrangements. These communal food waste bins will be routinely washed. Morne information, including what you can put in the food waste bin, can be found here: lincoln.gov.uk/bins-recycling/food-waste
It is important not to leave additional waste outside of the property, as it is likely to attract unwanted pests.
Unless you have a valid collection sticker on your green bin, you must not use it.
Bin issue
Lincoln City Council are responsible for your black household & recycling wheelie bins. Any issue with a missed bin collection, bin theft, or missing, damaged or new replacement bins should be reported directly to the Council. Upon your report, the Council will update you regarding your issue and guide you through how to dispose of your waste while you wait for your new bins or resolve your issue.
Additional bins & waste
The Council will supply properties with five or fewer residents with one black & brown household bin. Six or more are entitled to an additional bin. If you think you are entitled to an extra bin, use the link below to contact the Council.

It can often be the case in house shares that you find yourself with excess waste; it is important not to let this overflow or be left outside to attract pests.
All residents are entitled to leave any additional recycling next to their brown bin on collection day. The collection crew must clearly be able to see that the waste is recycling, so please ensure it is left in clear or white bags.
It is important that you do not contaminate your bins with waste that is not appropriate for the type of collection.
You should not put electrical items, wires, cables or batteries in your black waste bin and must ensure they are disposed of at the tip.
Brown bins must strictly contain recycling. If there are any items that are not recyclable, the Council will not empty the bin, and you will be responsible for the cost to rectify the issue.
Green bins must only contain garden waste and require payment for use. Please contact us if you wish to discuss using your green bin. If the green bin is filled with the incorrect waste, you will be responsible for the cost to have this emptied.
Bins that require emptying by a private contractor are charged at a commercial rate. Click here for an indication of usual costs.
The Council will take any action against residents who do not use their bins correctly.
